What is Pepper Spray ?
Pepper spray is a lachrymatory agent (an eye irritant that causes tearing, burning and possible, temporary blindness) that is used as a form of self-defense against other people, dogs and wildlife such as bears. The active ingredient is capsaicin which is used in arthritis salves and derived from the fruit of plants such as chilies.
In one form or another, pepper spray is regulated across the world to one degree or another. For example: In Belgium, it is illegal for any individual to carry pepper spray with the exception of police officers and/or those employed by private transportation companies. However, in the latter case, permission must first be obtained from the minister of internal affairs. This variance in prohibition reflects on the uncertainties in the effects of pepper spray use. research is conflictual at best.
