Our Old Mailbox

When I was young, we received our mail in a handmade, wooden box that my grandfather had made. Back then, you did not have to have a U.S. Mail certified mailbox. We lived on an old country, dirt road, so we had a cover for our mailbox, so that it didn’t get all dusty. Of course, it sheltered the mail from the rain too. Then, the post office said you needed to have a certified mailbox with a flag to let the postman know that there was mail in your box. That way, he didn’t have to stop at every mailbox to check to see if there was outgoing mail.
