Can Binge Drinking Only Once Result in Alcohol Poisoning?

Kirk only drank on Saint Patrick’s Day.  And on that day, he usually drank heavily most of the evening.  He figured that if he never drank with the exception of this one day, he would never become an alcohol abuser or an alcoholic.  Even though Kirk drank excessively one day per year he still engaged in binge drinking.  In other words, on Saint Patrick’s Day, since he drank more than five drinks in one sitting (the definition of binge drinking for a male), he was by definition involving himself in binge drinking.  The real downside of binge drinking, moreover, is that a person can suffer from alcohol poisoning even when binge drinking only once.  And in a number of instances, alcohol poisoning can result in death.  The bottom line is this: even though Kirk drank excessively only one time per year, he could still lose his life to an alcohol overdose.
